Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions Outlines EMR Domination Plan

Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions will spend $70 million on research and development this fiscal year and plans to further enhance electronic medical records (EMRs) by expanding applications over a broader range of operating systems and sources.

Speaking during the company's stockholder conference call on Jan. 11, 2010, Chief Executive Glen Tullam said Allscripts-Misys' footprint within a community must be largest in the physicians' office market, and must deliver an advantage to medical professionals for referrals between practices and connectivity to their community hospitals. After all, 90% of healthcare is provided within 60 miles of a patient’s home, said Tullam.

In the near-term, Allscripts-Misys plans to improve “proactive actionable quality," he said, noting the company's Clinical Quality Solution leads the industry in providing "information that positively impacts medical practices” and enables clients to qualify for CMS incentives. Allscripts-Misys also will move aggressively into partnerships with pharmacies, Tullam noted. In fact, on Jan. 7, 2010, CVS Caremark announced it is migrating its proprietary iScribe database to Allscripts-Misys' e-prescribing solution. CVS contractually gave Allscripts-Misys ownership of iScribe's provider database and rights to market Allscripts-Misys' EMR to database members.
